Born of a childhood dream.

My name is Chris Henkel, and I am so happy you’re here. As a kid, children’s books like Andrew Henry’s Meadow, and films like Swiss Family Robinson, turned the key that unlocked inspiration in my mind. Since my young life in the late 90’s, my soul has been deeply intertwined with treehouses. I recall seeing livable treehouses on TV when I was around 8 years old, and feeling that a life in the trees makes more sense to me than anything else.

When I was 19 years old, I was able to start my career as an Arborist with the Cincinnati based company, The Canopy Crew. As if the universe designed it, my friend, and the owner of The Canopy Crew, Django Kroner, is a renown Treehouse Builder. I was lucky enough to have an apprenticeship of sorts with The Crew, building in Ohio, Kentucky, and North Carolina. This was such a foundational time of learning and growing in my life, and solidified my dreams of being an Arborist and Treehouse builder.

I became an ISA Certified Arborist in 2019, and for the last 8 years, have been a climbing arborist, working in tree canopies around the country. That same year, I built my first professional treehouse for my high school science teachers’ kids. And in 2024, we did our 8th build as a company, a big beautiful and livable treehouse near Charlotte, North Carolina.

My wonderful friend Elijah Strongheart is my go-to carpenter and main man! He is an incredibly passionate builder, human, and thinker. I am so lucky to have him alongside me on this treehouse journey!

Good Nature Treehouse is a culmination of all my dreams and passions. My goal is to attract fellow dreamers, with whom I can build symbiotic dreams. Treehouses are the ultimate shared vision of joy, and connection with trees - the most magnificent, silent living beings on this planet. I hope that we can create something wondrous together.
